Intent
CORE PE
- As a team we are committed to inspiring students to develop a love of physical education and sport
- To offer a diverse and challenging curriculum that embeds a rounded knowledge of sport and the body
- For students to enjoy and progress within a range of sports within lessons and across the year
- To support students regardless of ability or background to achieve the best possible outcomes
- To match students to the most appropriate exam opportunities
GCSE PE
- To nurture and develop a love of learning for physical activity and the concepts surrounding it
- To inspire students to pursue avenues involving physical activity and sport
- Using the specification, we aim to highlight contemporary issues surrounding sport and physical activity as well as developing the understanding of anatomy and physiology within sport and physical activity
- To develop a range of core and advanced skills within a variety of sporting activities
- To encourage students to maintain an interest and curiosity for further education with physical education
KS5 PE
- Inspire students about different theoretical concepts linked to Physical Education
- To embed the Examination Specification encouraging in-depth knowledge
- To develop students understanding of the analysis of Performance
- To support students regardless of ability or background to achieve the best possible outcomes
- To advise and encourage further opportunities of studying Physical Education or sport into higher education or work-related careers
During Key Stage 3 and beyond, students will be taught to build on and embed the physical development and skills learned in Key Stages 1 and Key Stage 2.
- Students will become more competent, confident and expert in their techniques, and apply them across different sports and physical activities
- Students will gain an understanding of what makes a performance effective and how to apply these principles to their own and other’s work
- They will develop the confidence and interest to get involved in exercise, sports and activities out of school and in later life
- Students will understand and apply the long-term health benefits of physical activity
Students will be taught to:
- Use a range of tactics and strategies to overcome opponents in direct competition through team and individual games
- Develop their technique and improve their performance in other competitive sports
- Perform dance using advanced dance techniques within a range of dance styles and forms
- Take part in outdoor and adventurous activities which present intellectual and physical challenges and be encouraged to work ion a team, building on trust and developing skills to solve problems, either individually or as a group
- To analyse their performances compared to previous ones and demonstrate improvement to achieve their personal best
- To take part in competitive sports and activities outside of school through community links or sports clubs
