Intent
A good understanding of Health and Social Care is vital in today’s society, students will build and improve their communication skills and the way individuals develop within this course will open many doors and opportunities to various areas of life. It also provides them with life skills that are transferable to many other courses. There are strong links to Sociology, Psychology, Childcare as well as aspects of mathematics such as data interpretation and analysis. Aspects of geography and strong links to science all within this course. Human lifespan development enables them to understand how individuals develop and the factors that might affect their development. There will be a focus on provision of care and caring skills, inclusion and diversity, values, and services as well as physiological indicators and factors that affect health and wellbeing.
Working in health and social care exposes the students to a wide range of career opportunities and will allow them to develop interpersonal skills that will help to build relationships with individuals at all stages of life. They will become very aware of safeguarding and confidentiality across spectrum of care settings, this will provide a sound base to work in any organisation as well as relate well with their teachers and peers.
